INTRODUCTION

In the wake of Groudon's rampage, and the fall of Sootopolis to rocket, it became very clear that the league was struggling to not only protect the people under their charge, but to get them on their side.

Through a lack of training and direction, lives and infrastructure were lost at an outstanding rate, and not for the first time. There needed to be a more rigorous structure to allow those with the want to improve themselves to do so in a safe environment.

Thus, with the help of the league and running councilman Gabriel Black, a battlefield was created to inspire a new generation of league officers.

The remnants of a near-ruined city, with old-cars and damaged buildings, its people are scattered and destruction imminent from an impossibly powerful threat.

Little can be done to save it from its fate but that is your task none-the-less.

THE CHALLENGE

TRADITIONAL (WITH A TWIST)

Due to the unique structure of this gym, there is no 'traditional' challenge so to speak. Instead, trainers may opt to not undergo the extensive challenge offered and instead choose something smaller, more personal.

1. 1 v 1 / 2 v 2
2. The challenger must choose a Pokémon to act as a 'defenseless citizen', in a twist on the childhood game of 'Protect the President'. They are tasked with defending this non-combatant from harm, all while fending off attacks, or going on the offense themselves. Loss of their non-combatant does not constitute a defeat necessarily, as they will be judged on a number of factors.
3. No legendary Pokémon are authorized.

1. Up to SIX Pokémon will be allowed for use
2. The challenger will be thrown in a large-scale scenario and given prompts/quests/goals they must complete. Through the completion of these, they will slowly but surely bring the area under stabilized control. They will be judged on the decisions they make along the way, methods of completing the task, as well as other criteria only the proctor themselves will be privy too.
3. No legendary Pokémon are authorized.

introduction

A quaint library within Dewford one day has undergone a reconstruction after changing the upper management. What was once known as Dewford Library has changed its name into Dewford Study Center with its five-story building managed by Nia Acadia as she combined the function of a library and a gym led by her where the trainer can test their skill and knowledge about pokemon to prepare themselves for the battle league. It has a detached building that is connected to each other where it holds a pokemon battle between Nia the gym leader and the aspiring trainer. To sign up, all you need to do is to fill the form at the front desk who happens to be Nia herself! The gym battle usually only opens at the weekend from afternoon to evening, so no night battle unless both parties agreed upon it beforehand.[break][break]

THE CHALLENGE

Traditional

1v1 or 2v2 battle - A traditional battle between the trainer and Nia Acadia. However, you need to think smart as Nia value people who works together with their pokemon smartly. [break]

1. No DESTINY BOND, ONE-HIT KO MOVE, or PERISH SONG
2. If any of the posters (trainer or Nia Acadia) didn't post within a month, the thread will be archived. If it was due to the gym leader, the trainer can assume that they win the battle. If it is due to the trainer, the trainer can assume that they lost the battle.
3. No LEGENDARY POKEMON

Non - Traditional

BRAIN OVER THE BRAWN - The trainer will face a series of quizzes regarding the Pokemon world with different styles and difficulties. This 'battle' will be held within the library as they go up for every answer that they answered correctly. On each floor they have three people to ask for a hint and they are given two chances to answer for each floor. However, on the final floor or the fifth floor - They will only have one chance to answer and only have one person to ask for a hint. [break]

1. If you think the answer that is given by Nia Acadia is wrong, feel free to DM BBBunny#1043 or PM to Nia Acadia and tell me politely on why you think your answer is right and I will give you a free pass to the next floor if your defense is valid
2. If any of the posters (trainer or Nia Acadia) didn't post within a month, the thread will be archived. If it was due to the gym leader, the trainer can assume that they win the battle. If it is due to the trainer, the trainer can assume that they lost the battle.
3. No coercion to the hint giver and if there is any coercion attempt towards them, you will automatically fail.
4. A fail on any floor will still be a fail - it doesn't matter if it is on the fifth floor or first floor.
5. You can bring friends but if both of you will share the hint and answer chances

You arrive in the middle of a forested clearing and begin to wonder if you've taken a wrong turn. Checking the map again does indeed confirm that you have arrived at your destination, so where is the gym that you're looking for?[break][break]

In the center of the clearing stands a tall tree, large and twisted as it reaches towards the skies. When you walk towards it, you realise that it is hollow, a singular rope with numerous knots hanging within. Taking a step back and getting a closer look at the treeline grants you a sneak peek at an endless web of reinforced wires, rope ladders and ziplines.[break][break]

Before you can start running about the area or lose yourself to your primal primate urges, something moves within the hollow tree and you are met with the crimson gaze of a mere child. She tilts her head at you, listening as you ask her about the gym and smiles.[break][break]

"Well, whenever you're ready, we can begin!"[break]

In this secret garden, the past doesn't matter. The gym leader goes by the name of Rosmontis Lune and she welcomes all challengers regardless of their Rocket or League identity. However, she will not condone violence, major disruptions or threats in any way. Any cutthroat or destructive behaviours shown within the gym will result in the challenger being kicked out.[break][break]

At the start of the challenge, you will be provided a chance to pick pokemon from Rosmontis' team of gremlins - They may provide certain boons along your journey or perhaps, a few more problems than you might ever expect! Gym Information

NOTE: This gym is CLOSED due to being made canon! It will be reopening in Mauville City on September 10, 2022. All current Gym Challenges will continue, but no new ones will be accepted at this time. [break][break]

THE RACING GROUNDS are located on the north side of TRAINER HILL, its offices located on the first floor of the far north wing of the building. The office overlooks an outdoor facility for Pokémon races of all kinds. The facility is run by Josh Devlin and is open for trainers that want to get into racing Pokémon to do so on courses that are easy for newcomers to learn on but are still challenging to master.[break][break]

There is a grassy and hilly course for overland Pokémon to run on, a river-based course for Water-types to swim through, and an aerial course sprawling above the entire facility for flying Pokémon to compete on. On the green beneath the aerial course is a regulation-sized, well-maintained grass arena for traditional battles. It gives the challenger's Pokémon plenty of room to maneuver, but it also gives the Leader's Pokémon plenty of room to utilize their superior speed. There are no obstacles to hide behind, either; the arena is completely wide open.[break][break]

The Leader does not favor a particular type; instead he focuses primarily on Pokémon with very high base Speed. Expect to see Electric, Fire, Flying, and Dragon-type Pokémon, but particularly Electric-types.[break][break]

Educational Objective

In addition to sharing his love of Pokémon racing, the Leader's goal is to develop the ability to make split second decisions, develop trust of one's instincts, foster teamwork beyond what a simple Pokémon battle can, and most importantly, level-headedness under pressure. This is embodied by the fast-paced nature of the Leader's battles and the non-traditional challenge of a race.[break][break]

tl;dr: Trust and act on your gut feelings. They're almost always right. Teamwork is important.[break][break]

RULES

The facility is large enough to accommodate most large Pokémon, but if it's something excessively large such as a Wailord or Steelix, no. If you have questions on what is and isn't allowed, just ask![break][break]

Any instances of a challenger maiming, injuring, or killing a Pokémon will be meant with an automatic disqualification.[break][break]

Legendary Pokémon, Mega Evolutions, Z-Moves, etc. cannot be used without prior approval from the Leader. The Leader will not use these against challengers unless agreed to beforehand.[break][break]

During the first turn, the trainer that sends their Pokémon out first will make the first move.[break][break]

Perish Song and Destiny Bond are forbidden by International Association of Pokémon Leagues (IAPL) standards.[break][break]

Trick Room and Sticky Web are forbidden as these moves defeat the purpose of the experience the Leader is trying to share with challengers. Tailwind is also forbidden in Traditional Battles only for the same reason.[break][break]

Threads that have not been posted on for four weeks will be archived. I reserve the right to send out reminders after two weeks.[break][break]

Non-Traditional

All three of the Leader's non-traditional options are Pokémon races:[break][break]
A race with land Pokémon on a ground-based course[break]
A race with aquatic Pokémon on a river-based course[break]
A race with flying Pokémon on an aerial course[break][break]

All Non-Traditional Challenges require the challenger to use a Pokémon that could reasonably carry them using the method of locomotion corresponding to the selected challenge. Teleportation, portals, and any locomotion method other than the one specified in the challenge cannot be used (e.g. no flying in an overland race).[break][break]

Challengers will bring one Pokémon to these challenges, and will be competing against several of the Leader's Pokémon. The Leader will be riding one of his Pokémon, and the others will run, swim, or fly on their own. All Non-Traditional Challenges will have dice rolls! These dice rolls will be used to determine how well a trainer and their Pokémon can react to the course's twists, turns, and obstacles![break][break]

Non-Traditional Challenges will typically consist of three laps around the course, each lap spanning three posts, meaning nine posting rounds total. Moves that could be reasonably used to make a Pokémon travel faster, such as Quick Attack, Agility, and Extreme Speed, are prohibited from use during the first lap of the race only. During the second and third laps, however, they can be used to full effect. Go crazy and be creative! You will be rewarded for creativity![break][break]

The Leader reserves the right to decline challenges from challengers he knows are Rockets from another thread he has met them in. [break][break]

Battle Requests

If you have an active Gym thread and know you are going to be away from the forum for an extended period of time, please let me know ahead of time and I will suspend your challenge. After you return, your challenge will resume as soon as another challenge finishes; there will be no need to return to the back of the queue. [break][break]

Josh will be taking on two challengers at a time for Traditional Battles and up to five challengers at a time in total. The maximum gym queue will be eight challengers. Any requests for a Gym Battle while the queue is completely filled will be ignored.[break][break]

Your movesets are not locked in until the first post of your Gym Thread. Once your challenge has been accepted, you will have two weeks to post your Gym thread. Almost half of the region is made up of water and yet the average trainer doesn't know how to properly battle in aquatic conditions. This was no more evident than the HOENN STAR TOURNAMENT where a number of trainers were seen floundering with the underwater battle arena. It was this experience that convinced Rowan to help instruct others on the little-known art. [break][break]

Utilizing Tempest Quinn 's former gym in PACIFIDLOG TOWN, Rowan now challenges trainers to combat him in the aquatic arena, hoping they'll walk away with a greater understanding of the region and it's most prevalent feature. [break][break]

A battle taking place atop a wooden log, floating in the water. The goal of this challenge is to knock your opponent and their Pokémon off their log before your lose your own balance. This challenge is meant to be more of a fun, non-serious, version of the traditional challenge that is more RNG-BASED than a competition of skill.[break][break]

This challenge will feature a system similar to the HEAT used in the Sauna Stamina threads. You will begin with a BALANCE of 1000 and will roll with each post as you attempt to unbalance your opponent. The first person whose balance reaches 0, loses.
